I have an interesting problem on Debian testing - if I play video (.avi, .mpg, etc.) from any (remote) app like Totem or VLC, there is no sound, and players besides VLC will lock up. VLC would still play video, however. BUT, I recently discovered that if, right after I boot the terminal (amd64 arch), launch Iceweasel, go to Youtube, play THEN PAUSE a video, THEN go to a locally hosted movie with Totem/VLC/etc, the movie will play with sound and no

t lock up. I thought that might be an interesting clue to what's up with my tc sound issues. I've rebuilt the chroot, tried various lts.conf settings related to sound/sound servers/etc (to pinpoint the prob).. I'm guessing it has something to do with Flash using ALSA/locking the sound device, but I'm not sure what it might mean to pulseaudio.

Hyperbyte: fedora: LTSP for Fedora is maintained by the K12Linux project. Currently support only goes as far as Fedora 12. An LTSP version for RedHat EL6 and possibly Fedora 14 is in development. https://fedorahosted.org/k12linux/
08:27
<Hyperbyte>
Although I believe that development has finished by now.
08:28
<VectorX>
Hyperbyte yeah i spent a lot of time in that site but info seems outdated
08:28
and doing yum install ltsp, then trying to build says fedora 17 is not supported

Only Fedora 17's Gnome supports remote X again, so with Fedora 17 LTSP -might- work... but I don't think Warren has done it
08:30
Can I give you some advice, as a long-term Fedora user & fan?
08:30
<VectorX>
well thats what i have
08:30
sure
08:30
give it to me
08:30
<Hyperbyte>
Use Ubuntu for LTSP. It has much better support, newer LTSP version, and the Ubuntu release cycles are much more LTSP-friendly.
08:31
If you install Ubuntu 12.04, it will be supported for the next five years I think?
08:31
With Fedora's EOL cycle you'll have to upgrade every year or two.
08:31
That's just not useful in an LTSP environment.
08:31
<VectorX>
Hyperbyte well the only reason i am using fedora is since ubuntu discontinued support for multiseat, which i think has something to do with gnome, and fedora supports it quite well now with systemd

i dont think anyone ever ported the ltsp init scripts to systemd
08:33
<Hyperbyte>
VectorX, I'm not sure if Ubuntu 12.04 doesn't support multiseat? Might be easier to be hack multiseat into Ubuntu 12.04 than it is to hack LTSP into Fedora 17
08:35
<VectorX>
it doesnt support it, but yeah as you said it would be a hack to get it working, probably not worth it with the effort, well i mainly wanted to confirm the lack of ltsp support in fedora, perhaps i can use another machine and login to the fedora box using that then
08:39
<Hyperbyte>
Or you use Fedora 14.
08:39
Or CentOS or RHEL
08:39
<VectorX>
well im using it maily for the multiseat purpose aswell, so got 4 people on 1 comp, but its a dev setup so would be nice to have other be able to remote in
08:40
<Hyperbyte>
What's holding you back from using CentOS or RHEL? Those support LTSP, and also multiseat I think.
08:40
And their release cycle is comparable to Ubuntu LTS, so not as much work upgrading...
08:40
<VectorX>
i can try it out, what do you recomend

09:29

i think they didnt want to support it after moving more towards the cloud

<Hyperbyte>
No, I mean, technically, why?
09:30
What's changed that makes it impossible for you to get multiseat working?
09:30
<VectorX>
i think it was something to do with gnome removed X11
09:32
originally you could assing each head of a vga card to a seat, ie a vga with 2 or more outputs ends up as a individual seat, but with systemd a seat takes up an entire device, so the card is wasted in a way
09:33
which is the only drawback with fedora atm
09:33
beside no support for ltsp ofcourse

<vagrantc>
highvoltage: given the freeze and the increasing strictness of getting things into wheezy, do you think we can sort out ldm-themes today? would you like me to work on the remaining issues?

alkisg: hi!
20:11
<alkisg>
How's the weather there? :)
20:11* muppis drinks
20:13
<vagrantc>
alkisg: we just had the brief afternoon downpour ... it's hot and humid, as predicted
20:13
alkisg: how's your vacationing? :)
20:13
<alkisg>
Sweeeeet... by the beach all day, no PCs around at all, a bit of sailing...
20:14
Back to home for a few days, then we'll leave again

highvoltage: ok, will do
20:21
<highvoltage>
vagrantc: yes as in, yeas we can sort it out today, and yes, if you'd like to change anything, please don't hessitate
20:22
<vagrantc>
highvoltage: i just asked about ldm/ldm-themes in #debian-release and kibi gives pre-approval for "sane" changes :)
20:22* highvoltage is severely lacking concentration so far this afternoon but will try and focus a bit
20:22
<highvoltage>
vagrantc: nice!
20:23
<vagrantc>
highvoltage: i'm wondering if we should just leave the spacefun theme as is, and put: recommends: gtk2-engines | gtk2-engines-murrine
20:24
highvoltage: that will minimize the diff a bit, and still sort of recommend the right stuff for the defaults
20:25
<highvoltage>
vagrantc: where are you? I'm not 100% sure how that will solve it (I believe you, I just want to have the logic working in my head)
20:25
<vagrantc>
it's not perfect, but i don't think we can do this perfectly given the freeze
20:25
highvoltage: basically, it means joy, which will have higher priority, will have all the recommends satisfied, while spacefun won't work as well, but at least it doesn't generate a huge diff.
