<Keith_>
Getting into a bit of an annoying issue with an LTSP Ubuntu 16.04 server installation. Whenever I boot into the thin client, I get the login screen and am able to enter in my username and password. However... each time, and without end, I get "A new version of the system is available, rebooting in 10s." This happens with both the i386 and amd64 images.
03:56
And ideas or thoughts?

alkisg, I was wondering if disabling gdm3 in the chroot then enabling it again on user login, and disabling again on logout might be a solution to the VT switch. Would LDM be able to enable/disable the service at login/logout?

octoquad: gdm isn't supposed to run at all; anything else is a bug

Report the bug to the ltsp bug tracker, and wait for a fix in september; unless you're willing to sponsor its development sooner...

Does /etc/ltsp/update-kernels.conf still apply in the latest version of LTSP? I can't seem to get a custom CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT to work with ltsp-update-kernels.

copying update-kernels.comf from the chroot to /etc/ltsp/ doesn't work. Editing the file directly in the chroot then ltsp-update-kernels doesn't work either. Is this another bug :)
17:31
update-kernels.conf*
17:40
<alkisg>
octoquad: nah, it's just overengineered and difficult to get it right
17:40
If you have a chroot, you're supposed to edit it in the chroot, then install a kernel or run chroot/usr/share/ltsp/update-kernels, then exit the chroot and run ltsp-update-image..
17:42
<octoquad>
ok, let me give that a bash. I did miss the chroot/usr/share/ltsp/update-kernels step a few minutes ago.
17:43
<alkisg>
if you're using ltsp-pnp and not a chroot, it's a different method
17:44
<octoquad>
i'm using the NBD method
17:46
<alkisg>
What's the output of: sudo ltsp-info | nc termbin.com 9999
17:46
<octoquad>
Sorry, I'm trying to get use to all this, but I do use ltsp-chroot -m to do changes which is served over nbd
17:47
http://termbin.com/0pdh
17:48
<alkisg>
Yup, you're using a chroot, /opt/ltsp/amd64, which means no ltsp-pnp
17:48
<octoquad>
yeah. is ltsp-pnp a preferred way now or is it still ok to use chroots?
17:49
<alkisg>
Both are fine
17:50
ltsp-pnp is a lot easier but has less flexibility
17:50
<octoquad>
ok alkisg, that worked. I know have the argument showing for CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT. Let me document this on the wiki now while I have some time.
17:51
Would this page be alright to update? http://wiki.ltsp.org/wiki/Ltsp-update-kernels
17:52
Perhaps it's time to put wiki.ltsp.org on https? Maybe use Let's Encrypt for that?
17:52
<alkisg>
octoquad: http://wiki.ltsp.org/wiki/Tips_and_Tricks/Maintenance,it's mentioned there
17:52
Unfortunately we don't have access to ltsp.org, sbalneav probably has but we haven't seen him for more than a year
