muh2000: what is your root-path set to in dhcpd.conf?
muh2000: you have a 2.6 kernel with an older ltsp?
either older LTSP or newer LTSP. Perhaphs he's instaleld Ubuntu's LTSP
either way, i'd say his kernel doesn't match his ltsp

jammcq option root-path "192.168.88.1:/opt/ltsp/i386/";
it is ltsp 4.2
muh2000: do this: cat /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/version
apt-get install ltsp-utils. from the console. no ubuntu
jammcq file "version" ist N/A
it is not there
then you aren't using LTSP-4.2
ltsp-4.2 would have a file there
do this: ls -l /opt
drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 4096 2006-11-19 02:13 ltsp
ok, now: ls -l /opt/ltsp
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2006-11-19 02:13 data
drwxr-xr-x 17 root root 4096 2006-11-19 02:14 i386
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 8192 2006-11-19 02:13 pkg_cache
ok, now: ls -l /opt/ltsp/i386
took the woids right out of my mouth..\\
that's NOT ltsp-4.2
hmmm i think then debian provides an old ltspadmin
grab the ltsp-utils package from wiki.ltsp.org
ltsp-utils should be version 0.25
that's the latest
ok thank you :) version of the other ltsp-utils was 0.12 ^^

soooo sound doesnt work. :( what changes do i have to do ?
muh2000:that is a little magic...better read the wiki pages on sound
we/th ey are working on a far better solution
cliebow like sound works out of box ?
The requested URL /ltsp-4.1-extras/ltsp-sound-1.0-0.2.tar.bz2 was not found on this server.
it certainly wil in ubuntu feisty...muekow
not sure what is wrong with the url
i donr know if i have a copy on my server
where is the lts.conf located ?
i have ltsp-sound.sh in my server
in /etc/profile..cant remmeber if there is more to it
muh2000:catch rjune..he must have a copy somewhere..
cliebow or is there a newer version? for 4.2?
and where do i find the bootlog of a terminal ? there has been some output of the esd but i couldnt read

muh2000: /var/log/syslog or /var/log/messages ?
though you'll probably need to have remote syslogging enabled.

vagrantc only gnome delivers log into syslog.
but dmesg or something doesnt
you're not going to see the terminal's logs in dmesg output.
vagrantc is there any way to look up the boot log of a client ? there are two errors and i dont know what to look for when i cant see them...
but if you configure syslogd for remote reception (i think "-r") and configure the clients to talk to the server, then you should see the client's messages in one of the files in /var/log
vagrantc and how do i configure the syslog.conf file for remote reception or the client for talking to the server ?!?
muh2000: what linux distro?
ah, good. my distro of choice :)
sarge, etch ?
LTSP 4.2 ?
ok... server-side configuration
muh2000: do you have an /etc/default/syslogd ?
|11:34||patrickb_ has joined #ltsp|
muh2000: how about /etc/init.d/sysklogd ?
section "sysloged" here: http://wiki.ltsp.org/twiki/bin/view/Ltsp/TroubleShooting ?
You have to edit the /etc/init.d/sysklogd script and around line 15, you should see a line that says SYSLOGD="-u syslog" You'll need to add a '-r', so it looks like this: SYSLOGD="-r -u syslog"
the '-u syslog' bit may not be needed on debian.
yes that worked
you just need "-r"
muh2000: invoke-rc.d sysklogd restart
|11:38||patrickb has quit IRC|
muh2000: in /opt/ltsp/ARCH/etc/lts.conf: SYSLOG_HOST=ip.of.your.server
reboot a terminal, and look for the terminal's log messages in /var/log/syslog
logging worked without the entry in lts.conf
but the problems werent logged ^^
but in meanwhile i could read it a bit. something with ac97 not present.... :/
that's a sound-related kernel module, it think.
not necessary on all installations.
hmmmm but sound doesnt work...
muh2000: why can't you see the error messages?
i dont know they arent in the syslog file
can you look at the screen while the thin-client boots?
yes. now i have the other "es-something couldnt something misc device..." the x related thing is to long to read in the short boot time. terminal is next to me
you could try and disable X... do you have any SCREEN_NN entries in lts.conf ?
es 1371 cannot register misc device
screen xx = startx
change startx to shell
that way, you should be able to use shift-UP_ARROW to scroll through the messages.
ok the longer error msg part is related to X
vagrantc: the sound part i copied: http://nopaste.info/70e4058764.html
no idea here. maybe someone else can help.
i mostly work with the soon-to-be ltsp 5.0 stuff.
ah ok, i wish there is a sound support out of the box :) (my smallest client will be used as a mediacenter. and ltsp ist perfekt for that :D)
it might just take some fiddling with your hardware...
should i replace my sound card ?
|11:58||Arauto has joined #ltsp|
sound blaster live 5.1 ok ?
there's a "Sound" page on wiki.ltsp.org
i don't really know ltsp 4.2 well enough to say what works and what doesn't.
when will be ltsp 5.0 be done?
there's already partial implementations for debian and ubuntu
hmmm i have to wait a few months till etch is stable :)
i had meant to work on a sarge backport, but spent too much time working on etch for the sarge backport to work.
in many ways, it's a better approach. for a debian system, we built a debian environment for ltsp. so you can configure things "the debian way" for the ltsp environment. and any software available in for debian is available for the ltsp environment.
hmmmm but other distros are left behind or ?
each distro implements it's own ltsp, basically.
ubuntu was the first to do it, and we adapted the work for debian pretty quickly.
|12:04||RMSEL_Tech has quit IRC|
how to load an other net driver for my thin-client???????
allegedly, there's work on a fedora implementation... but it seems to be a secret project.

hmmmmm damn some apps dont give soudn options totem or vlc(only oss)
muh2000: there's vlc-plugin-esd
i can't imagine totem wouldn't work with esd.
vagrantc dont know but the totem audio section is not really a something where you could change something important
|12:33||* vagrantc would be surprised that totem doesn't support esound by default|

a technical quastion. is ltsp a thin or a thick client system. i mean is the server the complete resource for the clients or do the client use local resources like cpu power etc ?
or both depending on the configuration?
both depending on the configuration

Hmmm, anyone interested in compiling a sparc compliant LTSP?
i tested out support for sparc in the debian's ltsp muekow/5.0 packages, but it has been a while.
and i think ogra has his hands on one of the sunray's
just need a sun machine to build the initial chroot.
ogra: this makes me think we should make a .udeb for cross-architecture installs... you could use the debian-installer netboot to get the initial install, and then mount a writeable NFS share to install into.
or tweak ltsp-client-builder to work in that mode.

Hi I'm having trouble getting the dhcp server up. I'm doing the ltsp install by the gentoo.org ltsp guide but when starting dhcp daemon I get errors "line xx: expecting a parameter or declaration" in my kernel log. Weird thing is the line number corresponds to commented line if I check it out with nano. I have copy/pasted the dhcd.conf from gentoo guide and changed the ip:s to mine
we need to see your dhcpd.conf file, can you email it to me at jam@Ltsp.org ?
no pastebot? :(
the normal ltsp pastebot is down, and I don't remember the other ones

what line are you having the error at?
multiple let me check again
error at line 0 ?
doesn't sound right to me
well that's what kernel log says :p
that doesn't make sense
yeah I starting to think my system is somehow borked
could be my hardware tho the linux box is quite old
i've never seen hardware cause an error like this
let me copy paste the kernel log line
Nov 20 01:21:36 metalgear dhcpd: /etc/dhcp/dhcpd.conf line 0: expecting a parameter or declaration
yup before this I had problems with nfs but I got it up eventually
was getting errors that according to searches at gentoo forums indicated I didn't have nfs support in my kernel
ive used pastebin.net
