<Guest49254>
ah, I see, thanks!
00:02
now I am trying following guide for autologin with SSH keys which is partly from you, but even after doing everything like in the guide (plus one corrected typo), I am still getting authentication failure with failed password
00:10
<vagrantc>
which guide?
00:10

00:11
there is a typo of pam-mkhomedir.so instead of pam_mkhomedir.so
00:13* vagrantc doesn't tend to write on ubuntu sites much
00:14
<vagrantc>
someone definitely copied some stuff i wrote about that :)
00:15
Guest49254: AuthorizedKeysFile2 doesn't work with modern versions of openssh-server
00:15
<Guest49254>
yeah, I replaced that with AuthorizedKeysFile

when I create normal password-based user, regular autologin works when I use kiosk as screen, but with ldm it keeps restarting the session. I'll look into it more in the morning, thanks for your help so far!

<alkisg>
And does it say to install tftp there?
09:48
Thin clients or fat?
09:48
What specs?
09:48
gdm won't make any difference to the client graphics speed
09:48
And no, you can't use it (easily)
09:51
<ame>
alkisg:i have first checked for the status of tftpf but it says no service running..So i installed tftpd and then its working fine now
09:51
<alkisg>
What was the command to check tftpf?
09:51
And what was its output?
09:51
<ame>
alkisg:Which specs you want??
09:51
alkisg:which one output??
09:52
<alkisg>
You said that you checked for the status of tftpf
09:52
How?
09:52
<ame>
status tftpd-hpa
09:52
<alkisg>
tftpd-hpa shouldn't be installed
09:52
Uninstall it
09:52
<ame>
oh ok
09:52
<alkisg>
Why did you install it?
09:52
In ltsp-pnp, dnsmasq handles tftp
09:53
<ame>
alkisg:I am very new to ltsp...Please guid me to do that
09:53
<alkisg>
About the specs, I meant client cpu and ram
09:53
ame, you followed the ltsp-pnp page
09:53
<ame>
i have completed till generating the image
09:54
<alkisg>
There, it does *not* mention tftpd-hpa
09:54
<ame>
alkisg:client RAM is 1 GB in few computers and 2GB in few computers
09:54
<alkisg>
So, you decided not to follow that page
09:54
Why?
09:54
<ame>
alkisg:you sent a link for tftp right??So i followed that
09:54
<alkisg>
No you didn't
09:54
You have tftpd-hpa installed
09:54
That page doesn't say to install tftpd-hpa
09:55
So you didn't follow it, you did other things
09:55
<ame>
alkisg:sorry
09:55
alkisg:i will just uninstall that
09:55
<alkisg>
The issue here is not tftpd-hpa
09:55
The problem is that I don't know what things you did
09:56
E.g. maybe you followed 2 wiki pages? Maybe 3? Maybe 10?
09:56
You should be mentioning those here so that we know what you did
09:57
So in your next installation, take notes of what you are doing
09:57
<ame>
alkisg:I just followed the link which i sent
09:57
<alkisg>
No you didn't
09:57
You installed tftpd-hpa
09:57
<ame>
alkisg:That is the only mistake i done
09:57
<alkisg>
Anyway
09:57
<ame>
From that page
09:58
<alkisg>
You are saying that graphics is slow now?
09:58
Open a terminal in a client
09:58
Run this command: hostname
09:58
what is the output of that command if you run it in a client?
09:58
<ame>
But i have removed that tftpd know...my client is not booting
09:59
<alkisg>
What's the output of this command on the server?
09:59
grep tftp /etc/dnsmasq.d/ltsp-server-dnsmasq.conf
10:00
<ame>
i cant find the command
10:00
i can go till dnsmasq.d
10:00
After that nothing is there as you said
10:01
<alkisg>
Type that command on the server and tell me the output
10:01
Ah you mean the file isn't there?
10:01
Then you didn't do this step:
10:02
sudo ltsp-config dnsmasq
10:02
Read the wiki page, you didn't do that

Hello. I am fighting with kiwi-ltsp on openSUSE 12.3 x64 since meanwhile more than one month. With an update, I suddenly git a message on the booting client telling "Not supported by kernel" and it reboots.
12:34
<highvoltage>
is it an old thin client that doesn't do PAE?
12:35
<pingufan>
I managed to successfully run kiwi-ltsp -l to create a new i386 image, but I still get this error.
12:36
No the client is new enough. It boots the bootmenu. Also starts to boot up, then I get this error and it reboots.
12:36
So PAE is definitely working.
12:37
I am close to give up and install a harddisk in the clients, but this will become expensive (multiple clients)
12:38
What can cause this crazy error? It appeared with one of the last updates of the host machine.
12:43
I wonder that "kiwi-ltsp -l" still shows some references to openSUSE 12.2 (see here: http://pastebin.com/4ZtbikmT), but the system is meanwhile upgraded to 12.3 !
12:44
<highvoltage>
boot menu will still show even if it doesn't support PAE, it's only when the kernel loads when it will complain. what CPU do the clients have?

13:02
Any idea why this crap still uses 12.2 in some places?
13:07
I have no idea why it still uses some parts from 12.2. In /etc/sysconfig/kiwi-ltsp I find only one entry which was 12.2. I edited it to 12.3.

<m4xx>
morning all. i have an older disklessworkstation and i'm getting an hda-intel spurious response. I believe you guys helped me fix it a long time ago when i was working on an LTSP setup. anyone know/remember how to solve this by any chance?

<Hyperbyte>
m4xx, hi
18:40
That's a warning generated from the onboard Intel HDA soundcards.
18:40
It's a driver error, or hardware error, either of those.
18:41
Every now and then there's an audible pop on the output, this causes the spurious response message. That, or vice-versa... the message causes the pop.
18:41
Either way, you can safely ignore the message. If you want the message to disappear and you don't use the onboard soundcard, you can blacklist the snd_hda_intel kernel module on the client.
